Last year, AT&T made the decision to rebrand its television services, giving two of the services very similar names and making them available through one app. With the launch of those services, AT&T TV and AT&T TV NOW, and the upcoming launch of HBO MAX, we expected the company to drop its other TV services: DIRECTV, U-Verse TV and AT&T Watch TV. Instead, AT&T has opted to keep all five services up and running for the time being.

These are the five current AT&T video services.

AT&T TV – This cable-like service launched at the beginning of this month. AT&T TV starts at $59.99/month for 12 months, plus taxes and fees. This price is available with a 24-month contract. Prices go up in the second year too as much as $130 a month. AT&T TV requires a contract and a specific device but, unlike cable, streams content.

AT&T TV NOW – DIRECTV NOW rebranded as AT&T TV NOW, making it the company’s current streaming service. There are several package options available, but AT&T highlights the PLUS package for $65/month and the MAX package for $80/month. Few changes were made to the channel lineup when the service rebranded and the PLUS package notably includes HBO while the MAX packages includes HBO and Cinemax at no extra charge.

DIRECTV – This is AT&T’s satellite TV service. Pricing starts at $49.99/month before fees, with a 24 month contract. There are six packages available, with channels specifically for families, sports fans, and movie fans. Now that the company is focusing less on DIRECTV, AT&T’s COO has said that there’s a possibility of selling the service.

U-Verse TV – Before AT&T TV, there was U-Verse. Like DIRECTV, AT&T has commented that it is no longer focusing on marketing U-Verse to new customers. Online subscriptions are no longer available as of March 1, 2020, though current subscribers can keep their service and new subscribers can sign up via phone.

AT&T Watch TV – This is AT&T’s $15/month service with 35+ live channels and over 15,000 on demand titles. The streaming service has no monthly contract and doesn’t require any extra equipment. After the launch of AT&T TV, AT&T shut down signups for Watch TV. The company then quickly confirmed that they were accepting new customers again.

In addition to these five TV options, AT&T is also launching HBO MAX this spring. AT&T has continued to confirm that AT&T TV and HBO MAX will be the focus for the company moving forward.

With the shift in focus for the company, the question is whether all of these services will stay active and in what form.
